If you feel egg freezing is right for you, please call 416-506-0804, or email
to book your appointment. A HERS coordinator will contact you to confirm a date and time for you to come to the clinic.
When you arrive at LifeQuest, you will have an initial consult, during which you will meet with a member of the LifeQuest medical team who will review your case and order appropriate lab tests for hormone analysis, and to rule out HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and other infectious diseases. You will also have an opportunity to discuss the risks and benefits of egg freezing in detail, as well as ask any questions you may have about the procedure.
Several weeks after this initial consult, you will have a second appointment with your LifeQuest MD who will review your test results with you and create your individualized egg freezing plan. This appointment will also include a session with a HERS program nurse who will explain the step-by-step details of your plan and procedure.
As specialists in fertility medicine, we believe in treating the whole person. As a result, you will be booking a visit with one of the following well-established Toronto-based counsellors, all of whom are specialists in dealing with fertility issues and have offices located in close proximity to LifeQuest.
You will be asked to review and sign consent forms that ensure you are aware of all the risks and benefits of egg freezing as well as the prospective success rates.
At this point, you will be ready to begin your egg freezing cycle:
Your menstrual cycle will be monitored and carefully controlled before you receive fertility drugs to stimulate egg production. Specific details about cycle monitoring and fertility medication will be explained to you by your LifeQuest MD and the HERS program nurse when you receive your individualized egg freezing plan.
Approximately two to five weeks later, you will return to the clinic where a LifeQuest MD will perform a retrieval procedure to collect your eggs. For your comfort, you will have this procedure under conscious sedation. Immediately after the retrieval, your eggs will be placed in liquid nitrogen storage tanks in LifeQuest’s secure, on-site laboratory facility.
Once frozen, your eggs will be stored in liquid nitrogen until you are ready to try for a pregnancy. Your eggs will then be thawed, fertilized with your partner’s sperm or donor sperm using a technique called ICSI, and embryos will be transferred into your uterus. What are the next steps after my first consultation?
You will get a package of information, including a link to our online orientation at the end of your first consultation to help you make an informed decision about whether or not you want to go forward.
