Waiting for Daisy: a Tale of Two Continents, Three Religions, Five Infertility Doctors, an Oscar, an Atomic Bomb, A Romantic Night, and One Woman's Quest to Become a Mother, is a beautiful book by Peggy Orenstein, a journalist and writer who has written about her personal experiences with infertility. It's a book that I think everyone going through infertility or working in the field of infertility, should read. When I read it, I laughed and I cried. I have worked in infertility for 24 years, and I thought I understood how couples felt. I realize now that I didn't quite “get it.” I realize now that I still have a lot to learn about people who have to navigate their way through the system. I recently attended a conference where I was lucky enough to hear Peggy speak about the book. The pearl I came away with was the fact that she wished she had seen an infertility counsellor before she went through any of the treatments. She wished someone had impressed upon her how important it is, if for no other reason than to find out all of the feelings she was having were normal. I felt this book was very honest and open about the kinds of things people go though when they are undergoing fertility treatment. Treat yourself to a gift and get Peggy's book. |
